Visitors to Tokyo — domestic and international, alike — are spoiled for choice when it comes to hotel accommodations and dining. The omotenashi (traditional hospitality) service culture, where needs are anticipated alongside a meticulous attention to detail, allow guests and diners to be mesmerized by their experiences and have their senses indulged.
A recently opened Autograph Collection iconic lifestyle and luxury hotel located at the Takeshiba waterfront, mesm Tokyo, also embodies the dynamism and changing wavelength of the city.
The latest in Tokyo culture — art, fashion, lifestyle and technology — is woven into mesm Tokyo’s very fabric. Examples include the on-trend staff uniforms designed by Yohji Yamamoto Inc’s “Y’s BANG ON!” and the hotel’s innovative sound systems courtesy of companies such as Yamaha.
The hotel is offering autumn staycation packages starting at ¥70,461 per night using the GoTo travel discount. Its flagship restaurant is Chef ’s Theatre that specializes in French cuisine as art — “bistronomy” — served in a relaxed atmosphere. Refined performances are said to provide inspiration for its open kitchen, where culinary meister Koki Kumamoto and culinary artists deliver set course menus designed to intrigue and delight.
The latest of such menus falling under the banner of the hotel’s autumn dining program are the Normandie lunch (¥4,500 per person), where guests are invited to take a gastronomic journey to northwestern France. The Promenade dinner menu (¥9,000 per person) invites diners to enjoy a culinary stroll and experience the best of the season’s harvest. Guests can expect ingredients such as mussels, duck, figs, exotic mushrooms, venison, chestnuts or apples appearing across either menu. Taxes and service charges run extra.
Kumamoto’s meals are a culinary adventure written in five chapters, starting with a seasonal prologue or amuse bouche, while ending with an epilogue of artisanal tea or coffee and petit fours. Each course is devoted to a particular sense — sight, hearing, smell, taste and texture or touch.
