The year 2019 — and first year of the Reiwa Era — is rapidly drawing to a close, and The Peninsula Tokyo is pulling out all the stops with a fun-filled schedule of activities and dining events designed to celebrate the festive season and joy of giving, as well as to reconnect with friends and family. In keeping with the giving spirit, partial proceeds from the hotel’s Christmas-themed events are being donated to charity.
The hotel is presenting a Festive Afternoon Tea (¥6,500 per person) running from Nov. 1 to Dec. 25 at The Lobby, with sittings from 1 to 9 p.m. From savory delicacies to dainty sweets, the fare features gingerbread man motifs and other displays of Christmas cheer, accompanied by Peninsula original teas and an organic Art of Tea selection.
Also not to be missed is a gingerbread house decorating class held by executive pastry chef Pascal Cialdella and his skilled team on Dec. 7 at 3 p.m. Children are invited to experience a fun, hands-on workshop where they can decorate their very own gingerbread house while enjoying an indulgent afternoon tea buffet filled with a myriad of tasty delights. The class is priced at ¥10,000 per child, ¥5,000 of which will be donated to charity.
The Peninsula Tokyo’s award-winning restaurant Peter, boasting sweeping views of the Imperial Palace Gardens and Hibiya Park, sets a more decadent tone with a five-course New Year’s Eve Dinner, including free-flowing Dom Perignon (¥50,000 from 8 p.m.), and a Supper Club Countdown Event (¥24,000 with free-flowing Dom Perignon and canapes) on Dec. 31. The dinner includes free entry to the countdown event.
As a warm up to the festive season, the hotel’s authentic Cantonese restaurant Hei Fung Terrace showcases one of Asia’s most celebrated seasonal dishes, Shanghai hairy crab, in an eight-course extravaganza through Oct. 27 (¥19,800 per person, 6 to 10 p.m.)
