Bomb targets tourists in Cairo bazaar
The French teenagers on a school trip Feb. 22 had finished a day touring Cairo's 650-year-old Khan el-Khalili bazaar, a place to stock up on trinkets or soak up the atmosphere of ancient mosques hidden in winding alleyways. A homemade bomb was hidden under a stone bench in the square, the Egyptian government said Feb. 23. A 17-year-old girl from the group who was sitting on the bench was killed and 24 other people were wounded, most of them her fellow students.
The blast was the first attack targeting foreigners in Egypt in three years.
