KENYA
Violence continues after power deal
Thirteen people were burned alive or hacked to death March 3 in western Kenya, evidence conflicts over land that were exacerbated by a political dispute in the country are still boiling.
The attack was one in a series of clashes over land in the region at the foot of Mount Elgon in Kenya's fertile Rift Valley, some 480 km northwest of Nairobi. It was the first serious violence to erupt since a power-sharing agreement was struck recently as a way to end the election dispute.
On Feb. 28, Mwai Kibaki and opposition leader Raila Odinga agreed to share power, with Odinga as prime minister.
Despite the political deal, many fear the fighting will not wane easily.
