A spectacular fire ripped through the 19th-century clipper ship Cutty Sark on May 21, badly damaging a relic that was designed to speed fresh tea from China to Britain.
Damage caused by the fire will add millions to the cost of refurbishing one of the British capital's maritime relics, already standing at $50 million.
Metropolitan Police Superintendent Mark Mitchell said a joint investigation by the London Fire Brigade and the Forensic Science Service was under way.
