Peace finalized in new government
Sworn enemies from Northern Ireland's bitter past joined forces May 8 atop a new government, an achievement that both sides pledged would consign decades of conflict to history.
The Protestant evangelist Ian Paisley formed an administration with Catholic Sinn Fein deputy leader Martin McGuinness, a veteran commander in the Irish Republican Army.
