PAKISTAN
Further cooperation with China likely
China and Pakistan issued a wide-ranging joint statement that calls for stepped-up cooperation in military, economic, trade, energy and anti-terrorism efforts.
The accord was reached Nov. 25 during a visit to Pakistan by Chinese President Hu Jintao, the first Chinese leader to visit Beijing's long-standing South Asian ally in a decade.
Hu's visit to Pakistan contrasted with his earlier stop in India, where Beijing and New Delhi made little progress on longtime disputes.
In a joint statement issued on the eve of Hu's return home, Pakistan and China outlined their commitment to boosting trade, continued military cooperation, greater cross-border investment, development of energy resources and combating terrorism and regional instability.
