Restrictions eased at airports
London's major airports eased restrictions on carry-on items Aug. 15, though travelers faced cancellations as airlines and airport authorities struggled to get service back to normal following an Aug. 10 terrorism alert.
The British Airports Authority, which operates Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted airports serving London, implemented the government's revised rules which permit passengers to take a single, briefcase-sized bag aboard.
Passengers are allowed to carry on board one item of hand luggage about the size of a computer laptop bag. Mobile phones, laptops and electric key chains are permitted, but cosmetics, gels, toothpaste, liquids and sharp objects were forbidden inside airplane cabins.
