As leader of the socially conservative party, Jaroslaw Kaczynski was in line to become prime minister after Law and Justice won parliamentary elections last fall but vowed not to take the position to spare Poles the confusion of identical twins holding the country's two highest posts. According to a survey published July 10 in the daily Dziennik, Poles remain skeptical about such a setup.
Jaroslaw Kaczynski has said his future Cabinet would continue the pro-social welfare policies of outgoing Prime Minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz's government. He resigned July 10 amid reports of disagreements over economic policy between him and Jaroslaw Kaczynski, who was widely regarded as the power behind the scenes of the outgoing government.
