Train derailment kills 41

An injured passenger is helped by police after a train accident in Valencia, Spain, on July 3.

A subway train flipped off the tracks July 3 in Valencia, killing at least 41 passengers and injuring 47 in one of Spain's worst rail accidents.
Regional authorities said the train was going too fast and one of its wheels broke into pieces, derailing the first car, which overturned.
Five foreign nationals and the driver of the train were among those killed. The excessive speed at which the train was traveling has led officials to think the driver had fainted or become otherwise indisposed prior to the accident.
It was the second accident on Valencia's No. 1 line in less than a year. A September collision involving three trains injured at least 30 people, four of them seriously.
