Manila stadium stampede kills 74

A woman injured in a stampede at a sports stadium in a Manila suburb is rushed to a hospital Feb. 4.

A stampede early Feb. 4 outside a stadium near Manila where thousands had lined up to watch a popular game show, killed at least 74 people and injured 500 others.

About 30,000 people were waiting to get inside the Ultra stadium for the program, Wowowee, when the mayhem erupted, said Vicente Eusebio, the mayor of Pasig, the Manila suburb where the stampede occurred.

The game show, organized by ABS-CBN TV network, is extremely popular in the Philippines, as it offers big prizes, including cars and money. Some people had lined up for two days to get tickets.
