Parks to halt grisly feeding shows
Safari parks have agreed to stop staging live feeding shows in which horses and oxen are given to tigers who tear them to pieces for visitors' entertainment, state media said March 16.
The ban, however, only applies to large domesticated animals, Xinhua news agency said, and only when the park is open to visitors.
Park patrons will be allowed to throw live birds to the predators, and live feedings of large animals will be allowed after closing hours.
The decision was partly influenced by concern that such bloody scenes could "implant violent tendencies in youngsters," Xie Youxin, the deputy general manager of Wild Animal World in Chengdu, was quoted as saying.
