Revolving door Cabinet spins on
Tommy Thompson
The changing of the guard in the Bush administration continued Dec. 3 with the resignation of Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson. But officials said one of the most prominent members of the Cabinet, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, had agreed to stay on.

Bernard Kerik
Thompson was the eighth Cabinet member to resign since President George W. Bush's Nov. 2 re-election. The fast-paced staffing changes have infused the transition with the appearance of a mass exodus; but Bush has named new heads for six of the departments: state, commerce, justice, education, homeland security and agriculture.

Tom Ridge
Thompson's announcement came shortly after Bush announced at the White House that he was nominating Bernard Kerik -- who was police commissioner of New York, the head of the nation's largest law enforcement organization, during the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 -- to replace Tom Ridge as secretary of homeland security.
