9,248 'wrongly imprisoned' released
The mass release of 9,248 prison inmates was completed Nov. 26, a prison department source said Nov. 27, following a shake-up in the military regime.
The junta has said the prisoners were "wrongly imprisoned" by an intelligence bureau disbanded after the sacking and arrest of Prime Minister Khin Nyunt in October. He was head of military intelligence for two decades.
