First SARS death this year reported
China's Health Ministry said April 30 that a suspected SARS patient who died April 19 in Anhui province had been suffering from the disease. Her death is the first attributed to Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome this year.
The woman was the mother of a researcher who became the first person to be confirmed as a SARS patient in the latest outbreak.
On May 1, the ministry confirmed the sixth case in the outbreak.
All the cases can be traced to the Institute of Virology in Beijing where the researcher worked, health officials have said. It has been shut down while investigations are carried out.
