Consumer advocate and 2000 Green Party presidential candidate Ralph Nader said Feb. 22 that he is running again for the White House, this time as an independent.
Nader is blamed by many Democrats for former Vice President Al Gore's narrow defeat by George W. Bush in the 2000 presidential vote.
In 2000, Nader convinced many Democratic voters that there was little difference between then-Texas Gov. Bush, and Gore, who served as vice president under Bill Clinton.
Nader said he made his decision "after careful thought," despite dire warnings from Democratic party leaders that his bid might threaten the prospect that a Democrat will be able to defeat Bush in the November 2004 election.
He took several swipes at Bush, saying he is "really a giant corporation in the White House masquerading as a human being."
