Diana was not pregnant: coroner

With an inquest opened into the death of Princess Diana and conspiracy theories flying, the former coroner to Britain's royal family came forward Jan. 8 to assert that the princess had not been pregnant when she died.
In The Times newspaper, John Burton, the former coroner of the queen's household, broke silence to scotch rumors that Diana might have been pregnant with the child of her lover, Dodi Fayed.
He recalled that he examined Diana's body when it arrived back in London shortly after she died in Paris in August 1997 and that he inspected her womb -- as he was required to do by law.
"She wasn't pregnant. I know she wasn't pregnant. You wouldn't need to do any (blood) tests if you looked at the womb," he told The Times.
Talk of a baby was revived before Christmas, when the Independent on Sunday newspaper said it was told by a senior French police source that Diana was indeed pregnant.
