Musharraf survives second attack

Pakistani President Gen. Pervez Musharraf escaped a second attempt on his life in 11 days Dec. 25 when suicide bombers rammed two cars into his motorcade and killed 14 people, including the three bombers, official sources said. Some 50 people were wounded.

Information Minister Sheik Rashid Ahmed said the windshield of Musharraf's car was damaged but that the president was unhurt in the attack, which took place at a gasoline station just 2 km from his residence in the northern city of Rawalpindi.

The blast came just a day after Musharraf agreed to step down as army chief by the end of 2004.

The latest attack occurred some 300 meters from the spot where would-be assassins detonated a huge bomb Dec. 14 in another failed attempt to kill Musharraf.
