Monju reactor likely to restart soon
Fukui Gov. Issei Nishikawa suggested April 26 that he will give the green light to restarting the Monju fast-breeder reactor because the central government has agreed to offer residents a package of economic incentives and nuclear safety measures.
"I was able to confirm the government's positive attitude" toward the incentives and safety measures, Nishikawa said after meeting with two Cabinet ministers.
The Tsuruga-based prototype reactor was shut down by a sodium coolant leak and fire in December 1995.
