Ishikawa named MVP of JGTO
Teenager Ryo Ishikawa, who made Japanese golf history by becoming the youngest-ever money title winner Dec. 6, was named the Most Valuable Player by the Japan Golf Tour Organization on Dec. 7.
The 18-year-old Ishikawa, who won four titles in 2009 and raked in earnings of over ¥180 million, received awards in a record nine different categories.
"It's an honor to receive so many awards. It's been a dynamic year," said Ishikawa.
Yuta Ikeda, who finished second in the money rankings, was selected as Rookie of the Year.
Ikeda totaled more points under the system used by the JGTO in selecting the MVP, but Ishikawa was given the award after widening his appeal in overseas tournaments.
