Kameda beats Naito for WBC title
Challenger Koki Kameda won a unanimous decision over champion and compatriot Daisuke Naito to capture the WBC flyweight crown Nov. 29.
Third-ranked Kameda had the edge for most of the much-hyped 12-rounder at Saitama Super Arena and gained a measure of revenge for younger brother Daiki's controversial defeat to Naito two years ago.
The judges scored the bout 116-112, 117-111, 117-111 in favor of Kameda.
Kameda used his straight left to good effect and built up points to lead 3-0 after eight rounds on the open scoring system. His nose bloodied early on and bleeding from a cut above his right eye sustained in the 10th, Naito continued to come forward but to no avail.
