Sakai released on ¥5 million bail
Noriko Sakai, a 38-year-old former pop idol indicted on drug charges, was released on ¥5 million bail Sept. 17 following her Aug. 8 arrest.
Immediately after her release, Sakai bowed her head in front of some 300 reporters and said, "I'm really sorry."
Later at a news conference, Sakai said she would reflect on her actions.
"I will reflect on my sin and promise that I will never again do such a bad thing," she said.
"Because of my weakness, I was defeated," she said, wiping away tears. "I am so sorry for my fans in Japan and overseas."
Sakai's lawyer said she would be admitted to a hospital to undergo "treatment for her mental state."
