The government said June 12 that it will start accepting applications for its Eco-point system from July 1.

The Eco-point system allows consumers who buy government-designated refrigerators, televisions and air conditioners deemed good for the environment to apply for points that can be used to buy other goods and services.

To get the points, applicants must fill out a form, and send it together with their receipts and a photocopy of the product warranties to the secretariat of the subsidiary program. The forms will be available from electronics stores and post offices later this month.

The government will release a list of eligible goods and services for the system June 19. These are likely to include department store coupons and prepaid cards for public transportation. The goods must have been bought between May 15, 2009, and March 31, 2010.
