The wrestler, whose sumo name is Toshinori Wakanoho, was allegedly in possession of a cigarette containing 0.368 gram of dried plant matter, including cannabis, on a street near JR Kinshicho Station in Sumida Ward, Tokyo, on June 24. He was legally a minor at the time of the incident.
The wrestler has admitted to the allegation, saying the marijuana was given to him by a foreigner in the Roppongi area, according to the police.
The police said they also seized a "cannabis smoking device" from the wrestler's home.
The case came to light when the wrestler's wallet containing the cigarette and his alien registration card was turned in to the police after he lost it on a street.
Wakanoho, whose real name is Gagloev Soslan, belongs to the Magaki stable.
