North Korean hibakusha listed
A total of 1,911 North Korean survivors of the 1945 U.S. atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, living or dead, had been identified by the end of 2007, a Japanese antinuclear organization said April 25, quoting a survey by a North Korean group.
Of the total, 1,529, or 80 percent, have passed away, the Japan Congress Against A- and H-Bombs, known as Gensuikin, said.
As a result, there are now 382 A-bomb survivors in North Korea, according to the survey by the Korean A-bomb Victims Association for Peace Against Nukes.
The Japanese group said at a news conference in Tokyo it will urge the government to support the A-bomb survivors in North Korea, who have received no aid because of the lack of official bilateral relations.
