Fukuda, who came to power last September, would like to use a reshuffle to turn around low public support for his Cabinet and revamp his power base.
Fukuda, who does not plan to seek an extension of the Diet session beyond June 15, will most likely reorganize his Cabinet after hosting the Group of Eight summit at Hokkaido's Lake Toya hot-springs resort July 7 to 9.
Some lawmakers of Fukuda's Liberal Democratic Party-New Komeito ruling bloc have called for a Cabinet reshuffle in May or June.
