Moriya to be hit with perjury charges
Panels of both houses of the Diet adopted resolutions unanimously Jan. 15 to file perjury charges against former Vice Defense Minister Takemasa Moriya in connection with his sworn testimony before committees last year.
The House of Representatives committee on antiterrorism and Iraq reconstruction affairs and the House of Councilors committee on foreign affairs and defense submitted the complaints under the names of their respective chairmen to prosecutors for alleged false testimony in violation of the Diet Testimony Law, committee members said.
The Lower House committee judged Moriya made false statements when he told the panel in October that he had paid ¥10,000 as a playing fee each time he went to play golf with Motonobu Miyazaki, a former executive of defense equipment trader Yamada Corp.
