Michelin names Tokyo gourmet capital
Eight restaurants in Tokyo have been awarded the top three-star rating in Michelin's first Tokyo guidebook released Nov. 22.
The eight are Japanese restaurants Kanda, Koju and Hamadaya; French restaurants Quintessence, Joel Robuchon and L'osier; and Sushi restaurants Sukiyabashi Jiro and Sushi Mizutani.
At a news conference in Tokyo, Jean-Luc Naret, director of the Michelin Guide, said, "There were a lot of surprises in the quality of Japanese restaurants. It proved that Tokyo is one of the world's shining gastronomic cities."
