Ogata admits charges in Chongryon case

Former intelligence chief Shigetake Ogata has admitted to all charges during questioning by prosecutors over his alleged involvement in defrauding a pro-Pyongyang Korean residents group of ¥484 million, sources close to the matter said Aug. 6.

Ogata had previously changed his statements, denying the charges when he was first arrested in June, revising his statements to partially admit to them when he was served an additional arrest warrant July 18, and then denying them again later.

The fraud case came to light when it was revealed that registration of the ownership of the land and building of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan, or Chongryon, had been transferred to the Ogata side.
