School death benefit policy changed
The education ministry decided July 5 to pay death benefits to families of children who committed suicide outside of school premises due to bullying or punishment by teachers, revising its practice of paying death benefits for children who died when they were under school supervision, ministry officials said.
The revision of the benefit system came into effect July 9 and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology applied the revised benefit program retroactively to cases dating back two years.
