Abe meets ASDF troops in Kuwait
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe met May 1 with about 200 members of the Air Self-Defense Force stationed at Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait in a show of support for their airlift mission between Iraq and Kuwait.
Referring to deteriorating security and living conditions in Iraq, Abe said, "In whatever circumstance, I am confident that you will continue to make a major contribution to the reconstruction of Iraq as the representatives of Japan with the support you provide to the United Nations and multinational forces."
Abe arrived in Kuwait on April 30 on the third leg of his five-nation tour of the Middle East, becoming the first Japanese prime minister to visit the country.
