Nation's fish stocks plummeting
Stock levels are low for 40 of the 86 major fish species being caught on the Japanese coastlines, and 14 of them, such as Japanese sardines and Atka mackerel, face a grim future, according to the government's latest stock evaluation.
The evaluation, compiled by the Fisheries Agency, gives credence to the dire conditions some of Japan's coastline fishes face.
There is a possibility that the seafood eaten regularly will become harder to come by and their prices will rise.
