Thailand, Japan sign trade pact
Japan's Cabinet approved a landmark free trade agreement with Thailand on April 3 that will cut tariffs on everything from coconuts to automobiles between the two Asian nations.
The deal, which still requires parliamentary approval in Japan, was signed later that evening by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and visiting Thai Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont.
The Thai Cabinet has already given final approval to the accord after it was debated in the National Legislative Assembly.
The accord reduces or removes tariffs on farm products and manufactured goods and proponents say it will boost bilateral trade that already totals $44.1 billion a year.
