Makoto Mannami, a doctor in Ehime Prefecture who sparked controversy by transplanting unhealthy kidneys into patients, said March 24 he has canceled plans to present a report on his work at a May gathering in San Francisco of the American Transplant Congress.
Mannami, a senior urologist at Uwajima Tokushukai Hospital in Uwajima, said he made the decision because an acquaintance in the United States received an e-mail from the organizer saying the doctor's participation is premature and he should wait until the time is ripe.
"I do not know the details, but I am disappointed," Mannami said.
