Kepco executives face charges
The Fukui Prefectural Police handed prosecutors Feb. 26 their case against five Kansai Electric Power Co. officials and an official of a subsidiary suspected of negligence leading to an accident at a nuclear reactor in Fukui Prefecture that left five workers dead and six injured.
The officials are suspected of professional negligence that resulted in the rupture of a worn pipe at the No. 3 reactor in Kepco's Mihama nuclear plant on Aug. 9, 2004, police said. The 11 workers from a subcontractor were scalded by steam. It was later learned the pipe had not been inspected since 1976.
