Korean families sue Yasukuni
Some families of Korean soldiers and civilian personnel who served in the Japanese wartime military filed a lawsuit Feb. 26 against war-related Yasukuni Shrine, demanding that the Shinto shrine stop honoring their relatives and pay ¥1 in compensation.
It is the first time that families of South Korean war dead have filed a lawsuit against the shrine and not against the Japanese government.
Among the 11 South Korean plaintiffs who filed the lawsuit with the Tokyo District Court is a former civilian worker for the military who was enshrined as one of the war dead even though he is alive.
