Freeters to get second chance
The education ministry said Feb. 20 it is considering standardizing how colleges credit and certify adult students to help the growing number of young job-hoppers and other older people to get another chance at employment.
The plan is part of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's "second chance" initiative, a key policy initiative of his administration.
Currently, some colleges provide original credit certificates to students who finish adult education courses, but the way they do so varies from certifying a credit for each course to doing so after a required number of courses are taken, the officials said.
