A 17-year-old Japanese girl was among the six winners of the prestigious Prix de Lausanne ballet competition in Switzerland on Feb. 4, winning a one-year scholarship to an internationally renowned dance school.
Mai Kono from Saitama Prefecture was chosen for the top prize, which includes an award of $12,800, in her second challenge to the competition since two years ago during her training at the Munich Ballet Academy in Germany.
"It's unbelievable. I'm so glad," said Kono, who also received the audience favorite prize.
