Tuna-saving rate system proposed
Japan, Australia and the United States have proposed a system to evaluate the performance of five tuna resource management bodies based on common criteria, during a joint meeting that began Jan. 22 in Kobe.
The proposed assessment is apparently meant to enhance the five bodies' overall ability to manage tuna stocks, which are rapidly declining due to overfishing. The bodies operate independently based on different resource conservation policies.
