Ex-Mainichi employee arrested A former official of Mainichi Newspapers Co., the publisher of the nationally circulated vernacular Mainichi Shimbun, was arrested Jan. 15 on suspicion of embezzling a total of about ¥28 million from a bank account of the company's Tokyo head office, police said. In the embezzlement case, 50-year-old Takashi Nakamura, a former official engaged in marketing and accounting at Mainichi's Tokyo head office, has told the police he withdrew money without permission, the police said.
