Verdict on ex-prosecutor upheld
The Osaka High Court on Jan. 15 upheld a guilty verdict against a former senior prosecutor and a sentence of 20 months in prison and a fine of about ¥220,000 imposed on him for taking bribes from a gangster in exchange for tips on investigations.
In his appeal against a lower court ruling, Tamaki Mitsui, former chief of the public security department at the Osaka High Public Prosecutor's Office had asked for his indictments to be invalidated, saying the prosecutors had set him up because he was about to blow the whistle on misuse of investigative money by prosecutors' offices nationwide.
