Woman sent to prosecutors over husband's dismembered body

A Tokyo woman who was arrested for abandoning her husband's dismembered body has told police she committed the crime because her husband had no feelings of apology over troubles between them, investigative sources said Jan. 12.

"My husband had no intention of sincerely apologizing. He never said 'I was wrong,' not even once," the investigative sources quoted Kaori Mihashi as saying.

The woman and her husband Yusuke Mihashi, a 30-year-old employee of a foreign-affiliated securities company, were both going out with other people, and the husband was consulting with acquaintances about getting divorced just before his death, the sources said.

The police suspect that issues related to their affairs were behind the incident, in which Mihashi has admitted to clubbing her husband on the head with a wine bottle on Dec. 12.

The two got married in March 2003, but Mihashi has said they began having quarrels half a year later and that she was suffering domestic violence, according to investigators and people close to the matter.

The police believe Mihashi beat her husband on the head due to animosity, they said.

His torso was found inside a plastic bag left on a street in Shinjuku on Dec. 16, while the lower half of his body was abandoned in the garden of an empty house in Shibuya on Dec. 28.

The head was found Jan. 10 in the Tokyo suburb of Machida by investigators based on Mihashi's testimony.
