Softbank gets slap on wrist
The Fair Trade Commission instructed cellphone operator Softbank Mobile Corp. on Dec. 12 to correct its discount campaign advertisements which the commission says might mislead customers, FTC officials said.
The antitrust watchdog also instructed two larger mobile phone operators, NTT DoCoMo Inc. and KDDI Corp., to exercise more caution on their ads.
In the ads, Softbank Mobile emphasized free-of-charge cellphone calls and e-mail service for customers of the country's third-largest mobile operator while using only a very small space to specify conditions for the free service, such as limited time periods.
