Three opposition parties agreed Dec. 12 to submit to the House of Representatives a no-confidence motion against Foreign Minister Taro Aso over his remarks calling for a debate on the possibility of Japan going nuclear.
The main opposition Democratic Party of Japan, the Social Democratic Party and the People's New Party reached the agreement during a meeting of their secretaries-general in Tokyo.
The three parties plan to discuss the idea further by holding another meeting, which would also include the Japanese Communist Party, they said.
The submission of such a motion is "something that should be done," DPJ Secretary-General Yukio Hatoyama said.
