Ceremony held for Princess Aiko
The Imperial family held a centuries-old ceremony Nov. 11 to wish good health to Princess Aiko, granddaughter of Emperor Akihito, and give thanks for her growth.
The Chakko-no-gi ceremony took place at the Tokyo palace where Aiko, 4, lives with her parents, Crown Prince Naruhito and Crown Princess Masako.
The ceremony, which celebrates the passage from infancy to childhood, has been passed down through the imperial family for at least nine centuries.
