Prime Minister Shinzo Abe voiced disappointment Nov. 13 over the victory the previous day of an opposition-backed candidate in the Fukushima gubernatorial election and said the governing bloc must work harder to ensure other races go its way, including the Nov. 19 election for Okinawa governor.
Yuhei Sato, a former House of Councilors member backed by the Democratic Party of Japan and the Social Democratic Party, overwhelmingly won the Fukushima election, which was held following the resignation and arrest of Eisaku Sato over bid-rigging and payoffs.
