Free trade with China possible
Beijing is willing to discuss the possibility of free trade with Japan, China's Foreign Ministry said Nov. 2, following a tentative suggestion by Japan's prime minister.
"We believe that the development of free trade will be beneficial for the long term development of both countries and both peoples," said Liu Jianchao, a Foreign Ministry spokesman. "We are ready to have a joint study with Japan in this regard."
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal newspaper published Nov. 1, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe expressed interest in pursuing a free trade agreement with China.
