Seventeen lawmakers who were forced to leave the governing Liberal-Democratic Party following their opposition to privatizing the postal system in 2005 will return to the party en masse, several LDP sources said Oct. 13.
LDP Secretary-General Hidenao Nakagawa and former trade minister Takeo Hiranuma , one of the lawmakers forced to leave the party and who represents those who left, are to meet soon to discuss procedures to have all of them return to the party by the end of year.
If everything goes smoothly, the plan would be finalized soon after the Lower-house by-elections to be held Oct. 22.
