N. Koreans denied entry to meeting
The government denied visas to the six North Korean representatives of Christian and Buddhist organizations because of tightened visa restrictions imposed after North Korea's test-firing of a barrage of missiles in July.
More than 2,000 people representing 100 countries were expected to take part in the 8th World Assembly of Religions for Peace, which began Aug. 26 in Kyoto.
The decision was "nothing but suppression of religion unprecedented in the history of relations," an unidentified spokesman for the North's Korean Council of Religionists said, calling it an "illegal and reckless action."
