Tourists head on holiday

Holidaymakers wait at the departure lobby of Narita International Airport on Aug. 12.

Airplanes departing from Tokyo's Haneda airport to destinations across Japan were fully booked, as were planes departing from Narita and Kansai international airports heading abroad.

Airport officials said there had been only a few cancellations following the revelation Aug. 10 of a foiled terrorist plot to blow up a number of aircraft flying from Britain to the United States.

Passengers on some flights, including some to the United States, were asked to go through lengthy luggage checks and were not allowed to take any liquids on board the aircraft.
